Positive Behavior (PBIS) is a program that has been adopted at our school. It is a way to encourage students to behave in a positive manner. MCES teachers support, reinforce, and promote this program daily. Below is the classroom matrix that all students are required to follow. Each day the students will have the opportunity to earn tickets if they follow the SWIM matrix.
SWIM is an acronym representing our school-wide behavior expectations. We will spend time going over each of the expectations repeatedly throughout the year. Expectations will be discussed and modeled in the classroom, hallway, restrooms, cafeteria, playground, etc. so that students understand how they apply to each area of the school.
S - Stays safe
W - Works hard
I - Is respectful and kind
M - Manage actions
In our classroom, your child will be held accountable for following these expectations to help create and maintain an optimal learning environment. In your child's daily folder you will find a calendar for the current month. Your child's conduct grade will be listed for each day. If he/she has met the expectations, you will see that reflected by a smiley face. If expectations have not been met, you will see a a number that correlates with the SWIM rule your child had difficulty following that day.
At MCES we expect students to SWIM each and every day. We teach our students our expectations in the classroom and throughout the school. If you would like to view our expectations or practice them at home please click on the documents listed below!
